DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Due to relocation of Iowa 149 in and near North English, in 1988, the description should be revised to include the changes of Iowa 149 in Iowa County.

 

The old section of Iowa 149 became Iowa 922 at the same time.

 

Iowa 149 begins at Iowa-Keokuk County line at the south edge of North English and travels northerly, easterly and northerly via North English, Parnell and Williamsburg to Interstate 80 approximately 1 mile north of Williamsburg.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended that the old description of Iowa 149 in Iowa County be deleted and the new description, as described in the attachment, be included in the Primary Road System.

 

New Description - Iowa 149 and its extensions in Iowa County described as follows:

 

North English:

 

Beginning on an unnamed street at the south corporation line (Iowa-Keokuk County line); thence northeast on unnamed street the east corporation line.

 

Beginning again on the east corporation line of North English, connecting with unnamed Street; thence northeasterly through Se. 36-T78N-R11W to a point near the center SE ¼ of Section 36-T78N-R11W; thence northerly following substantially the section line of Sections 36, 31, 30, 19, 18, and 7-T78N-R10W to a point approximately 1,000 feet south of the NW Corner of Section 7-T78N-R10W; thence curving northeasterly to a point approximately 1,000 feet east of the NW Corner of Section 7-T78N-R10W; thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 7, 8 and 9-T78N-R10W to the west corporation line of Parnell, connecting with Cleveland Street.

 

Parnell:

 

Beginning on Cleveland Street at the west corporation line; thence east on Cleveland Street to Hatter Avenue; thence north on Hatter Avenue to the north corporation line.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Project Agreement number 84‑P‑002 between the Iowa Department of Transportation and Iowa County transferred that portion of Iowa 149 from Interstate 80 approximately one mile north of Williamsburg north to a junction with US 6 approximately three miles southeast of Marengo to county jurisdiction on September 20, 1985.

 

To provide a major route between Dubuque, Cedar Rapids and Interstate 80, the portion of Iowa 149 from US 6 north to the Iowa‑Benton County Line should be re‑designated as a portion of US 151. The geographic location of the remainder of Iowa 149 in Iowa County will remain unchanged.

 

The description of Iowa 149 in Iowa County should be revised to reflect these changes.

 

Iowa 149 begins at the Iowa Keokuk County Line at the south edge of North English and travels northerly, easterly and northerly via North English, Parnell and Williamsburg to Interstate 80 approximately one mile north of Williamsburg.
